Whether that reads as shorter, heavier or simply more frame-dominant depends on the face and wearing position.

02 · SHALLOW FRAME

A shallow frame leaves more uninterrupted vertical facial area

With a shallow lens depth, more of the cheek and jaw area remains visually continuous below the frame.

On some faces, this uninterrupted vertical area can make the face feel longer.

Horizontal width and color contrast also contribute, so the direction is not fixed.

03 · WEARING HEIGHT

The same frame can look different at a different wearing height

If the frame sits lower than intended, the gap between the brows and frame increases and the lower rim also moves downward.

That can change the proportions from the design's intended position.

Compare designs only after the wearing position is stable.

04 · FRAME LINE

Upper and lower rim geometry also changes how the face is divided

Square frames with strong straight lines create clearer horizontal boundaries, while round frames wrap the center of the face with more curves.

That changes how the frame interacts with vertical facial lines even when the nominal depth is similar.

05 · PROPORTION

Judge how much of the actual face the frame occupies

Face length alone is not enough to determine lens depth.

The brows, eyes, nose, cheekbones and actual frame height all influence the result.

There is no universal lens-depth formula for long or short faces.
