Small faces often benefit from reduced overall frame width, but the best choice also depends on monocular PD, bridge anatomy, ear position and the desired style.
01 · FACE WIDTH
Start with actual face width and effective frame width
On a small face, an excessively wide frame can extend far past the sides and move more easily.
But a small printed lens size does not automatically mean a good fit.
The effective width including endpieces and hinge position is more important.
02 · PD
PD matters too, but it does not scale one-to-one with face size
People with smaller faces may often have smaller pupil distances, but outer face width and PD are different measurements.
If frame center distance differs greatly from monocular PD, the required lens decentration and blank diameter can increase.
Eyes that appear somewhat off-center in the lens openings can still be perfectly normal, so appearance alone should not decide the frame.
03 · BRIDGE
Nose shape still varies widely on small faces
A small face does not necessarily have a narrow bridge.
The nose may be low and broad or high and narrow, so the actual internal bridge shape and contact need to be checked separately, especially in plastic frames.
04 · TEMPLE LENGTH
Temple length should be judged from actual ear position
Some people with small faces also have shorter distances to the ears, but this is not universal.
If the temples are too long or short, forming a natural bend behind the ears can be difficult, so use the real wearing result rather than nominal length alone.
05 · STYLE
Oversized styling is still possible
A small face does not rule out a larger fashion silhouette.
The important distinction is between a frame that is intentionally large in appearance and a frame whose bridge, width or temple length is actually unstable on the wearer.
