If the hinge sits farther outward on the front, the temple start can also be farther outward.
If the hinge is more inward or the endpiece is shorter, the temple may begin farther inward even with the same lens size.

02 · ENDPIECE
The endpiece must be considered too
A long endpiece from the outer lens rim to the hinge can increase the external front width and move the temple start outward.
This is one reason printed lens size alone does not predict wearing width.

The direction leaving the hinge also matters
Even with a suitable hinge position, temples that angle too far inward can create temple pressure.
If they angle too far outward, side support may feel loose.

Thick acetate, thin metal, rimless and semi-rimless frames connect the front and temples in different ways.

Some frames allow relatively easy correction of endpiece or temple direction, while others have limited adjustment because of material or hinge design.
It is worth considering both wearing width and adjustment range when selecting a frame.
