Key point first

Some outward movement of the temples can be normal when a frame is worn, but excessive spread with persistent pressure can indicate a mismatch in frame width or hinge and temple geometry.

01 · NORMAL SPREAD

A certain amount of spread can be normal

The temple position on the face does not have to be identical to the position when the frame is sitting open on a table.

Depending on frame design and head width, slight outward movement during wear can be normal.

What matters more than appearance is whether pressure and stability are appropriate.

02 · EXCESSIVE SPREAD

Large flare from the hinge can signal a width problem

If the temples flare strongly from the hinge or endpiece and press both sides of the head, the effective front width may be too narrow.

An unsuitable temple starting direction from the hinge or endpiece can produce a similar appearance, so examine the entire structure.

03 · HINGE LOAD

Repeated excessive spreading can load the hinge and frame

If a narrow frame is repeatedly opened far beyond its resting position, outward force is repeatedly applied to the temples, hinges and endpieces.

Over time this can contribute to deformation, looseness or wear, although the degree depends on material, construction and handling.

04 · SPRING HINGE

A spring hinge does not eliminate a sizing problem

Spring hinges allow additional outward travel within their designed range.

If the frame is much too narrow, however, the spring may remain widely opened during wear.

Using spring travel is not the same thing as having the correct frame size.

05 · FIT

Judge the temple path and pressure on the actual wearer

The temples should follow a natural route from the sides of the head toward the ears without persistent pressure, while the frame remains stable.

The goal is not perfectly parallel temples but an appropriate relationship for the frame and wearer.

SOLUTION GUIDE

Solutions at a glance

Both temples hurt

Check frame width and temple starting direction.

The temples flare strongly from the hinge

Recheck front and endpiece width.

The spring hinge stays widely open

Check whether the base frame size is too narrow.

They look slightly spread but feel stable and comfortable

Judge whether it is normal for that design.

GLANOS FITTING CHECK

GLANOS fitting check order

  1. Front
Check the frame itself and effective wearing width.
  2. Nose pads / bridge
    Set the basic wearing position.
  3. Width
Check temple spread and side pressure.
  4. Temple bend
Add only the needed rear support.

CAUTION

Do not force the hinge because the temples look spread

First determine whether the frame is actually too narrow or whether hinge and endpiece geometry is mismatched. Compensating for a structural size problem at one point can create other problems.
