Discomfort with new glasses can be part of normal visual adaptation, but frame position, lens power and design, vertex distance and fitting problems should be separated and checked.

01 · FRAME POSITION

A new frame may place the lenses differently from the old one

Different bridge height and frame width can change wearing height and the distance between the eyes and lenses.

Even with the same prescription, a higher or lower frame position or a different vertex distance can make vision and comfort feel different.

02 · LENS POWER

A prescription change can alter visual sensation

Changes in myopia or hyperopia correction, astigmatism power or axis can make floors, objects or spatial relationships feel different at first.

Larger changes may require a period of adaptation.

03 · LENS DESIGN

The lens design may also have changed

Changing from spherical to aspheric lenses, from single-vision to progressive lenses, or between progressive designs can change peripheral vision and head movement patterns.

Progressive lenses are particularly sensitive to wearing height, pantoscopic tilt, vertex distance and frame alignment.

04 · VERTEX DISTANCE

Has the distance between the lens and eye changed?

Vertex distance changes the effective wearing relationship between the lens and eye.

With higher prescriptions, a change in vertex distance can be felt more strongly, so compare the new and old glasses.

05 · FITTING OR ADAPTATION

Separate fitting problems from visual adaptation

Severe nose pain, pressure on only one temple or an obviously tilted frame are not typical visual adaptation issues.

A new prescription or lens design can feel unfamiliar and may need time.

If discomfort does not improve, or if there is severe dizziness, double vision or visual discomfort that interferes with daily activities, recheck lens power, centration, design and the fitting instead of assuming it is normal adaptation.

    Make sure the wearing position does not keep changing.

CAUTION

Do not assume every problem is adaptation

Some visual changes need time, but severe pain or persistent visual discomfort deserves a recheck. With progressive and high-prescription lenses, actual wearing position is as important as the lens itself.
