Key point first

When the ears are at different heights, the goal is not to make every frame part mechanically symmetrical but to keep the frame and lens position stable on the actual face.

01 · EAR HEIGHT

Different ear heights are a natural facial variation

The two ears can differ slightly in height and front-back position.

Even a few millimeters can become visually noticeable in a spectacle frame, especially with a deep lens shape.

02 · TEMPLE POSITION

The same temple position does not create the same result

Even if both temples hook onto the ears in the same geometric way, different ear heights can tilt the front.

The temple direction and vertical support may therefore need to differ slightly between sides.

03 · TEMPLE BEND

The bend position may also differ left to right

If the ear start point and rear contour differ, the temple bend can begin at different positions and follow different curves.

Matching the actual ear is usually more comfortable and stable than bending both sides at the same measured distance.

04 · FRAME LEVEL

What matters is how the frame sits on the face

Both temples can look identical on a bench and still make the frame tilt on the wearer.

Conversely, slightly different temple shapes can produce a more level and comfortable result on the face.

05 · LENS POSITION

Check lens position as well as visual level

Do not judge only by appearance when correcting height.

Wearing height, vertex distance and pantoscopic tilt can change at the same time and affect the relationship between the eyes and lenses.

This is especially important with progressive or high-prescription lenses.

SOLUTION GUIDE

Solutions at a glance

One ear is higher

The temple bends do not need to be identical.

One side of the frame rises

Check front alignment and actual ear height together.

The frame looks level but feels uncomfortable

Recheck behind-ear pressure and lens position.

The wearer uses progressive lenses

Check wearing height and pantoscopic tilt as well.

GLANOS FITTING CHECK

GLANOS fitting check order

  1. Front
Set the frame itself to a proper reference state.
  2. Nose pads / bridge
    Check wearing height and centering.
  3. Width
    Set appropriate side support.
  4. Temple bend
In the last step, account for the actual difference in ear height.

CAUTION

Different left-right temple shapes are not necessarily wrong

When facial anatomy differs, the frame may also need small left-right differences. The final criterion is the wearing result and lens position, not symmetry when the glasses are viewed by themselves.

There is a reason glasses feel uncomfortable.
