Excess pressure in plastic frames should be checked through total front width, thick-temple contact, hinge position, acetate adjustment range and frame selection.
01 · FRAME WIDTH
Is the total front width narrower than your face?
This is the first thing to check when a plastic frame feels too tight.
A narrow frame can make the temples flare outward while pressing inward against the sides of the head.
If the temples flare markedly instead of running naturally toward the ears, the frame may simply be too narrow.
02 · TEMPLE THICKNESS
Thick temples can make pressure feel stronger
Plastic-frame temples are often wider and thicker than metal temples.
A broad contact area can distribute pressure, but if the frame is too narrow the entire surface can keep pressing the head.
Edges or protrusions can also create more localized pain.
03 · HINGE POSITION
The same printed size can fit differently
Frames with the same lens width can still have different effective wearing width depending on hinge position and outer-front shape.
This is why the printed size alone cannot tell you whether a frame will feel wide or narrow.
Check total front width and where the hinges actually begin.
04 · ACETATE ADJUSTMENT
Acetate can be adjusted to a degree
Controlled professional heating can change temple angle and spread within limits.
Mild tightness can sometimes be improved with fitting.
But forcing a substantially undersized frame wider can keep stress on the hinges and front.
05 · FRAME SELECTION
Sometimes frame selection comes before fitting
No amount of fitting can make every frame suitable for every face.
If a frame is much too narrow, choosing a size that better matches the wearer can be more stable than forcing the existing frame wider.
SOLUTION GUIDE
Solutions at a glance
Check total frame width.
Check whether the frame itself is too narrow.
Consider professional acetate fitting.
Reconsider the frame itself.
GLANOS FITTING CHECK
GLANOS fitting check order
- Front
Check twist and total width. - Bridge
Check stable nose support. - Width
Check excessive side pressure. - Temple bend
Check that the rear fit is not also pulling too strongly.
CAUTION
Do not force a tight plastic frame wider at home
Forcing cold acetate can damage the hinge area or frame, and home heating with hot water or a hair dryer is not recommended. Adjustment should match the frame structure and material.
