Key point first

Forward shift in metal frames can involve nose-pad slipping, front center of mass, temple spread and behind-ear support.

01 · NOSE PAD

Are the nose pads providing stable support?

If pad angle does not match the nose or contact is unstable, the frame can move forward more easily.

Old pads can become hard or their surface characteristics can change.

Silicone pads may help some wearers, but check position and angle before changing material alone.

02 · FRONT WEIGHT

Check front weight and center of mass

Large lenses, thick lenses or a heavy frame front can move the center of mass forward and increase the sensation of forward shift.

A high prescription alone does not always shift the center of mass forward, so consider lens size, material, thickness and frame construction together.

If you simply narrow the nose pads to compensate, nose pressure can increase.

03 · TEMPLE SPREAD

Are the temples spread too far outward?

If the frame is too wide or the temples flare outward excessively, lateral support is reduced.

The frame can then move forward more easily.

04 · TEMPLE BEND

Is the behind-ear bend too loose?

If the temples do not engage stably behind the ears, the frame can move forward.

But an excessively deep bend can create ear pain, so use only the amount of rear support needed.

05 · BALANCE

This is ultimately a front-and-rear balance problem

The nose pads and rear temple fitting do not work independently.

Stable front support plus appropriate side and rear restraint is what keeps the frame in position.

SOLUTION GUIDE

Solutions at a glance

It slips on the nose

Check nose-pad position, angle and material condition.

The front feels unusually heavy

Check lens/front size and center of mass.

The frame feels loose at the sides

Check temple spread.

Rear support is weak

Check the temple bend.

GLANOS FITTING CHECK

GLANOS fitting check order

  1. Front
    Check front alignment.
  2. Nose pads
Check stable pad position and angle.
  3. Width
    Check necessary side support.
  4. Temple bend
Check sufficient but not excessive rear support.

CAUTION

Do not simply narrow the nose pads because the frame shifts forward

Narrowing the pads can increase grip but also create nose pain and marks. The cause may instead be temple spread or a front-heavy balance, so check the full fitting sequence.
