Cheek contact with plastic frames depends on bridge height and shape, lower-rim design, cheekbone clearance and overall frame size.
01 · BRIDGE HEIGHT
Does the bridge hold the frame far enough from the face?
In plastic frames, bridge fit strongly influences wearing height and frame-to-face distance.
If the bridge shape does not match the wearer’s nose height and width, the frame may sit too close and the lower rim can touch the cheeks.
For low or broad noses, the actual wearing position matters more than the product label.
02 · BRIDGE SHAPE
Matching bridge width alone is not enough
Two frames with the same bridge width can have different height, curvature and contact points.
A bridge that does not match the nose may position the frame too low or too close to the face.
Low-bridge or Asian-fit labels can be useful, but the real criterion is how the bridge actually fits the wearer.
03 · LOWER RIM
Lower-rim design also matters
A deep lens shape or lower rim that extends far downward can contact the cheeks more easily.
Thicker plastic around the lower rim can make the contact feel stronger.
If the design itself conflicts with facial anatomy, fitting alone may not solve it.
04 · CHEEKBONE
Are the cheekbones pushing the frame upward?
The cheeks and cheekbones move upward when smiling or speaking.
If the lower frame sits too close, the cheeks can lift the glasses.
This can also make eyelashes touch the lenses or cause the wearing position to change repeatedly.
05 · NOSE PAD OPTION
Bridge support can sometimes be supplemented
If the bridge is only slightly mismatched, selected frames may allow supplementary solutions.
Adhesive pads can slightly change wearing height, and some acetate frames can accept custom acetate pads.
Where structure, material and machining allowance permit, a professional adjustable metal nose-pad conversion may be considered, but these methods are not suitable for every frame.
SOLUTION GUIDE
Solutions at a glance
Check bridge height and actual nose contact.
Check cheekbone and lower-rim interference.
Reconsider frame size and design.
Consider an adhesive pad only if the frame structure is suitable.
GLANOS FITTING CHECK
GLANOS fitting check order
- Front alignment
Check the frame for twist first. - Bridge fit
Check bridge contact and wearing height. - Overall width
Make sure the frame width is stable on the face. - Temple bend
Check that rear fitting is not significantly changing the front position.
CAUTION
Do not simply add thicker pads because the frame touches your cheeks
Pads can change wearing height and frame-to-face distance, but they also change lens position. If the cause is lower-rim design or overall frame size, pads alone may not be enough.
