Key point first

High cheekbones are not a problem by themselves. What matters is whether enough space remains between the lower frame and the cheeks after considering bridge support, vertical depth, vertex distance and pantoscopic tilt.

01 · LOWER RIM

Look at where the lower rim sits

A deep lens shape and low lower rim can reduce clearance above the cheekbones.

If the cheeks and cheekbones rise and push the frame when smiling, check the lower-rim shape and actual wearing height.

Names such as round or Boston matter less than where the real lower contour falls on the wearer.

02 · VERTEX DISTANCE

Check whether the frame sits too close to the face

Nose pads in metal frames and bridge geometry in plastic frames affect the space between lenses and the face.

If vertex distance is very short, eyelash and cheek interference can increase.

Simply pushing the frame forward is not the only answer because changing vertex distance also changes the optical wearing condition; pantoscopic tilt and the prescription should be considered.

03 · BRIDGE FIT

A low-sitting bridge can bring the lower rim closer to the cheekbones

If the nose does not support the frame securely, the glasses can sit lower and sometimes closer to the face.

This can reduce lower-rim clearance, so check bridge contact and wearing height first.

04 · FRAME SHAPE

The lower contour can differ even when size numbers match

Two frames with similar A and B dimensions can still have different lower-rim curves and different depth near the nose and temples.

So the actual lower contour on the face is more informative than a shape label or one size number.

05 · MOVEMENT TEST

Test the frame while making normal facial expressions

A frame may clear the cheeks at rest but be pushed upward when the wearer smiles or talks.

Trying normal expressions during frame selection helps reveal real interference that a static front view can miss.

SOLUTION GUIDE

Solutions at a glance

The frame rises when smiling

Check actual lower-rim and cheekbone interference.

The eyelashes also touch

Check vertex distance and bridge support.

A plastic frame sits too low

Check internal bridge geometry and wearing height.

Only deep frames cause the problem

Compare B dimension and lower-rim contour.

GLANOS FITTING CHECK

GLANOS fitting check order

  1. Front
Check lower-rim contour and vertical depth.
  2. Nose pads / bridge
Stabilize wearing height and face-to-lens distance.
  3. Width
Make sure the frame is not shifting on the face.
  4. Expression test
Check cheek and cheekbone clearance while smiling and talking.

CAUTION

High cheekbones do not mean one specific frame style must always be avoided

Many shapes can work when vertical depth, lower-rim contour, bridge support and face-to-frame distance are appropriate for the wearer.
