The printed DBL is only a reference value. It does not describe the full width, height and curvature of the bridge that actually contacts the nose, so real contact and wearing height matter more.

01 · WIDTH

A plastic bridge that is too narrow can create pressure

If the internal bridge shape is too narrow for the nose or contacts in the wrong place, pressure can concentrate on the sides or upper part of the nose.

A small printed DBL does not necessarily mean the real contact width is narrow.

The internal bridge height, curvature and contact position need to be checked together.

02 · TOO WIDE

Insufficient support can make the frame sit low or move

If the bridge does not support the nose securely, the frame can sit lower or shift repeatedly.

Rather than assuming the printed bridge number is simply too wide, also check actual contact area, nose slope, frame load and temple fit.

03 · SHAPE

The same DBL can still have very different internal bridge geometry

In plastic frames, internal curvature, height, depth and thickness strongly influence nose fit.

Two frames both marked 20 mm DBL can contact the nose at very different positions and over very different areas.

That is why the bridge number on an old frame is a useful reference, but not a value to copy blindly.

04 · METAL FRAME

Metal frames with separate nose pads offer relatively more adjustment

Metal frames with independent pads can adjust pad spacing, height and angle to suit the wearer.

But pad-arm length and position and the fixed bridge geometry still differ among frames, so adjustment range is not unlimited.

A metal frame cannot automatically be fitted to every nose.

05 · TRY ON

Judge the actual wearing position and pressure

The frame should sit at an appropriate height, avoid concentrated nose pressure and remain reasonably stable during normal movement.

Bridge selection is ultimately based on actual nose contact and the balance of the whole frame rather than the printed number alone.

    Make sure a bridge problem is not being compensated with side pressure.
  4. Temple bend
    Do not hide a front-fit problem by tightening behind the ears.

CAUTION

Do not choose a new frame by copying the old bridge number alone

Even with the same DBL, models can differ in internal bridge height, curvature, thickness and contact position. How the bridge actually supports the nose matters more.
