01 · GEOMETRIC CENTER

The frame’s geometric center is different from an optical reference point

The geometric center of a boxed lens opening is a reference point used to describe frame shape.

It is not the same concept as the optical center of a single-vision lens or the fitting cross and prism reference point used in progressive lenses.

So the pupils do not need to appear exactly at the frame’s geometric center.

02 · PUPIL POSITION

Pupil position differs from person to person

Two people wearing the same frame can have different monocular PDs and facial anatomy, so their pupils will appear in different places within the lens openings.

Lens ordering and finishing use the actual measurements and the reference system appropriate to the lens design.

03 · HORIZONTAL POSITION

Horizontal placement is judged with monocular PD and frame geometry

It is common for the eyes to appear somewhat inward from the geometric lens centers.

What matters is that the required optical reference points are positioned according to the prescription and monocular PD, not simple visual symmetry.

If prism is prescribed or a special lens design is used, the corresponding ordering rules also apply.

04 · VERTICAL POSITION

Vertical placement depends on the lens type

In deep frames, the pupils often appear above the geometric center of the lens opening.

Progressive lenses use the real wearing position to measure fitting height and monocular PD so the fitting cross can be positioned correctly.

For single-vision lenses, vertical centration can also be checked according to the prescription and dispensing method.

05 · EXTREME POSITION

If the pupils lie very close to an edge, reconsider the frame relationship

If a pupil sits unusually close to the edge of the lens opening, review frame size, bridge fit and the final wearing position.

A large difference between frame center distance and PD can increase required decentration and lens blank diameter, which can affect thickness and weight in stronger prescriptions.

    Stabilize wearing height and vertex distance.
  3. Width
    Make sure the frame is not shifting during wear.
  4. Lens measurements
    Then measure pupil position and the reference points required by the lens design.

CAUTION

A frame is not automatically good just because the eyes appear centered

If the bridge or width is wrong and the frame keeps moving, even correctly measured lens reference points will not remain stable during real wear.
