Key point first

Nose pads are adjustable, but a single movement of the pad arm can change spacing, height, angle and vertex distance at the same time, making simple “narrower or wider” adjustment unreliable.

01 · MULTIPLE CHANGES

One movement can change several fitting variables

Moving a pad arm in one direction may change not only spacing but also height, angle and the distance from the face.

Which variables change and in which direction depends on the arm geometry, adjustment direction and nose shape.

That is why even a small adjustment should be judged in the context of the full wearing position.

02 · LEFT-RIGHT BALANCE

It is easy to create left-right differences

When each side is moved by hand, it is difficult to reproduce the same reference on both sides.

If one pad becomes higher or farther forward, the frame can tilt, one side of the nose can take more pressure, and vertex distance can differ left to right.

03 · METAL FATIGUE

Repeated bending stresses the metal

Repeatedly correcting and reversing an adjustment can accumulate fatigue in the thin pad arm.

The degree varies with material and construction, but repeated bending increases the risk of permanent deformation or breakage.

04 · FRAME ALIGNMENT

The real cause may not be the nose pads

Slipping or pressure can originate from the frame front, overall width, temple spread or the behind-ear bend.

Adjusting only the nose pads without finding the cause can increase nose pressure while leaving the original problem unresolved.

05 · LENS POSITION

Lens position also changes

Nose-pad adjustment can change wearing height, vertex distance and sometimes pantoscopic tilt.

With progressive or high-prescription lenses, the change in lens position matters in addition to comfort.

SOLUTION GUIDE

Solutions at a glance

1. Is the frame itself straight?

Check front alignment first.

2. Is pad contact stable?

Look for edge pressure.

3. Do the two pads differ in height or angle?

Compare the pads and arms.

4. Where is the cause in the whole fit?

Adjust only the necessary part and as little as possible.

GLANOS FITTING CHECK

GLANOS fitting check order

  1. Front
    Check the frame reference state.
  2. Nose pads
Check height, spacing, angle and contact.
  3. Width
    Check lateral support.
  4. Temple bend
    Check support behind the ears.

CAUTION

Do not repeatedly narrow and widen the pads by hand

Being adjustable does not mean the parts can be repeatedly moved in any direction without consequence. Find the cause first and make the minimum adjustment appropriate to the arm structure.
