Nose-pad spacing is not simply a matter of narrow or wide. Nose width and shape, pad angle, contact area, wearing height and left-right balance all need to be considered.
01 · NOSE WIDTH
First, the spacing must suit the actual nose width and shape
If the pads are too narrow, they can press strongly on both sides of the nose.
If they are too wide, it may be difficult to create enough stable support.
There is no single correct spacing because nose width, slope and bridge shape differ from person to person.
02 · CONTACT AREA
Contact area and angle matter as much as spacing
Even if the spacing looks correct, it is not a good fit if only one end of a pad touches the nose.
The pads should follow the slope of the nose and create stable surface contact, so spacing and angle should be judged together.
03 · WEARING HEIGHT
Changing spacing can also change wearing height
Adjusting pad spacing and pad-arm position can change where the frame is supported on the nose, moving it higher or lower.
However, it is not accurate to say that narrowing always raises the frame or widening always lowers it; the result depends on nose shape and how the pad arms are moved.
04 · SLIPPING
Do not automatically narrow the pads because the frame slips
Slipping can come from pad angle, front balance, temple spread or the behind-ear bend as well as pad spacing.
If the real cause is elsewhere, continuing to narrow the pads can create nose marks and pain.
05 · LEFT-RIGHT BALANCE
Check whether both pads support the frame evenly
If one pad presses much more strongly or contacts at a different point, the frame can tilt or rotate.
The goal is not mechanically identical pad shapes, but stable support on the actual nose.
SOLUTION GUIDE
Solutions at a glance
Check whether spacing and pad angle are too narrow.
Check contact area and the whole fitting, not spacing alone.
Compare left-right height, angle and pressure.
Recheck wearing height and lens position.
GLANOS FITTING CHECK
GLANOS fitting check order
- Front
Check frame alignment first. - Nose pads
Judge spacing, angle and contact area together. - Width
Check temple support. - Temple bend
Finalize stability behind the ears.
CAUTION
Do not solve slipping with pad spacing alone
Narrowing the pads until the nose hurts is not good fitting. Consider spacing, angle, contact area and the balance of the entire frame.
