Key point first

Repeatedly wearing glasses on top of the head can spread the temples farther than normal wearing in many people, adding unnecessary outward force to the hinges and frame.

01 · OVERSPREAD

The temples may spread farther than during normal wear

For many wearers, the temples open more on top of the head than they do at the normal temple area.

If this is repeated, the basic spread and left-right balance can change.

The glasses may then feel looser when returned to the face.

02 · HINGE STRESS

The hinges also receive outward force

If the frame is opened widely on the head, the hinges and endpieces can experience greater outward force than in normal wear.

Spring hinges allow extra movement within a designed range, but they are not intended to be kept repeatedly over-spread.

03 · METAL FRAME

Metal temple angles can change

Thin metal temples have elasticity and recovery, but repeated large spreading forces can change their resting angle and left-right spread.

If one side changes more, the frame can later drift or rotate.

04 · ACETATE FRAME

Plastic frames can change shape too

Acetate is more susceptible to shape change in high-temperature environments.

If the temples are held widely spread while the frame is also exposed to high ambient heat, the chance of deformation can increase.

Body heat alone should not be treated as the sole cause; repeated over-spreading and high temperature are the more relevant combination.

05 · SLIPPING

The result can be a looser, more slippery fit

If side width increases, lateral support on the face can decrease.

The frame may move forward more easily, place more demand on the nose and slide down.

What looks like simple slipping can sometimes be related to repeated storage or wearing on top of the head.

SOLUTION GUIDE

Key points at a glance

You need to take the glasses off briefly

A case is the most stable option when practical.

You set them down for a moment

Keep the lens surface off the table.

One temple is being compressed

Reposition the frame so pressure is not asymmetric.

The frame already feels loose

Check temple spread and overall alignment.

GLANOS FITTING CHECK

GLANOS fitting check order

  1. Front
    Check the frame for twist.
  2. Nose pads / bridge
    Check whether nose support changed.
  3. Width
    Compare temple spread.
  4. Temple bend
    Recheck rear support.

CAUTION

Putting glasses on your head once does not instantly deform them

The concern is repeated and prolonged over-spreading. With acetate frames, high-temperature conditions can further increase the chance of shape change.
