A frame can feel strange after refitting because one adjustment changes wearing height, vertex distance and tilt, or because the wearer had adapted to the previous distorted position.
01 · LOCAL ADJUSTMENT
Changing one part changes other fitting variables too
Adjusting nose pads can change wearing height and vertex distance.
Opening the temples may reduce side pressure but also change lateral support and slipping.
Changing the behind-ear bend can influence front position and tilt, so fitting variables should be considered as a connected system.
02 · OLD ADAPTATION
You may have adapted to the previous distorted position
If glasses were worn tilted for a long time, that position can begin to feel normal.
Restoring the frame to a proper reference state may initially feel higher, lower or unfamiliar on one side.
However, that does not mean every new discomfort should be dismissed as adaptation.
03 · WEARING HEIGHT
Has wearing height changed?
Changing nose-pad or bridge fitting changes where the lenses sit in front of the eyes.
Even single-vision lenses can feel different if centration changes, while progressive lenses are more directly affected by changes in fitting height.
04 · VERTEX DISTANCE
The lens-to-eye distance may also have changed
Nose-pad or tilt adjustments can change vertex distance and alter visual sensation.
With higher prescriptions, small distance changes may be felt more strongly.
05 · FITTING SEQUENCE
The sequence still matters during refitting
Correcting only the uncomfortable point can miss the rest of the balance.
If the front is distorted and the temples are adjusted first, later changes may simply compensate for the wrong reference.
Refitting should again follow front → nose pads/bridge → width → temple bend.
SOLUTION GUIDE
Solutions at a glance
Compare wearing height and tilt with the old glasses.
Check vertex distance, tilt and lens position.
Recheck the whole fitting balance.
Recheck fitting and lens position.
GLANOS FITTING CHECK
GLANOS fitting check order
- Front
Restore the frame to a proper reference alignment. - Nose pads / bridge
Check wearing height and vertex distance. - Width
Check side pressure and stability. - Temple bend
Finalize rear support and front position.
CAUTION
Do not automatically return the frame to the old position just because it feels different
If the old frame was already distorted, a correct position can initially feel unfamiliar. But if pain or visual discomfort persists, do not treat it as adaptation alone; recheck fitting and lens position.
